Unread, read and bookmarks
What the reader counts as unread, how entries are marked read as you scroll or all at once, how to keep an entry with a bookmark, and how long entries stay.
Unread
An entry is unread when it arrived after you subscribed and nobody has marked it read. A feed you add today does not bring its whole archive as unread: the reader starts from the moment you subscribed, so the first view holds the entries that were on the feed then and whatever comes after. The badge next to a feed, a category and All counts the unread entries.
Marking read
- Scrolling past an entry marks it read. The list watches what leaves the top of the screen, so a quick skim counts.
- Opening an entry marks it read.
- Mark all as read in the top bar marks the whole view: a feed, a category, or All.
- An entry's menu has Mark as unread to bring one back.
A marked-read entry is not deleted; it leaves the unread view and stays where search and the feed's own view can find it.
Bookmarks
Bookmark in an entry's menu keeps it. Bookmarked entries are gathered under Bookmarks in the rail and are never removed by the clean-up below, read or not.
Ignoring posts like this
Ignore posts like this… in an entry's menu opens a rule prefilled from that entry's title. Saving it hides every entry of that feed that matches, now and in future. The rules are explained under Filters.
How long entries stay
Entries you have read are removed after your plan's history period, counted from the entry's date; the plans page has the numbers. An entry that is still unread stays, and a bookmarked entry always stays. A feed also keeps its newest entries whatever their age, so a feed that posts rarely does not go empty.
