Page feeds

Turn any listing page into a feed. Cards mode follows repeated items, sections mode splits a long page at its headings; the signed address holds the settings.

A page feed is for a page that has no feed of its own: a tag page whose advertised feed is site-wide, a «latest» section, a changelog. MicroRSS reads the page on a schedule like a feed, picks the items out with selectors you set once, and serves them as a feed.

Building one

In Add Feed, click build one from the page. The wizard Feed from a page takes the Page URL and an optional hint in words («the article cards, not the sidebar»), fetches the page and lists the groups of repeated items it found, with how many items and how many carry a date. Pick one and the preview shows the items as the feed will carry them. Category files the feed; Feed URL at the bottom is the result.

Cards and sections

  • Cards is the usual shape: the page repeats a block per item, each with a link. Every item is an entry; the crawler is turned on so the entry carries the linked page's text.
  • Sections is for one long document — release notes, a changelog — split at its headings. Each heading with everything up to the next one is an entry, carrying that section's own HTML, and a title pattern says which headings count (^v?\d+\.\d+ for version headings).

The fields

Under the item selector:

  • Title selector, Date selector and Image selector point inside an item; empty, they are found automatically (the first heading, a time element, the first image).
  • A URL pattern keeps only items whose link contains it, /news/ for example, which weeds a listing's navigation links out.
  • Max items caps how many items a fetch takes.

Some listings MicroRSS already knows: for those the wizard puts a ready recipe first, with the fields filled in.

The address is the configuration

The feed's address carries every setting, signed. Nothing is stored on the server for it, nothing in your browser, and the address works in any reader, not only MicroRSS. Changing a setting later, from Feed Settings → Page Feed, signs a new address; the old one keeps working until you save.
